About This Place

Located in the charming heart of Estremoz at Rossio Marques de Pombal 13, Cafe Alentejano is a must-visit destination for those seeking an authentic taste of Alentejo’s rich culinary heritage. This inviting café offers a delightful fusion of traditional Portuguese flavors with a focus on fresh, locally sourced ingredients that truly capture the essence of the region.

The menu is a celebration of rustic and refined tastes alike. Among the standout dishes, the Guisadinho de Javali (wild boar stew) has garnered passionate praise from visitors like Chantal Lyons, who called it "possibly the best meat dish I have had in my life." This gamey, deeply flavorful dish is not only a treat for the palate but also an ethical choice, reflecting the sustainability of local hunting traditions. Alongside this, the café’s Bacalhau A Casa and Arroz de Marisco deliver the sea’s bounty with comforting textures and vibrant aromas, while Lagartos de Porco Preto and Bife de Vitela highlight the celebrated quality of Alentejo’s pork and veal.

For those with a sweet tooth, the café’s desserts are equally compelling. The Cookies and Cream Pie offers a luscious finish that balances creamy richness with a satisfying crunch, and the seasonal Maçã Assada brings a warm, spiced sweetness that complements the heartier courses perfectly. Pair any meal with a robust Café Delta Q or sample the locally produced Vinho Adega Mayor to elevate your experience even further.

The atmosphere at Cafe Alentejano is warm and welcoming, with attentive service led by a dedicated owner whose light-footed efficiency does not go unnoticed. The blend of traditional décor with the cozy buzz of satisfied patrons creates an intimate setting perfect for leisurely lunches or relaxed dinners. Visitors like Wagner Alegretti laud the establishment for its “best relation quality of food / price in the town,” while locals and tourists alike appreciate the friendly and helpful staff.

True to its reputation, Cafe Alentejano also shines with its comforting dishes such as Sopa da Panela and hearty Lombo de Porco Com Batatas E Esparregado de Espinafres, perfect for those seeking the classic, homestyle fare that Alentejo is famous for. The grilled Costeletas Borrego Grelhadas and simple yet flavorful Salada provide lighter options, balancing the menu beautifully.

Whether you’re stopping by after a day exploring Estremoz or looking to indulge in a meal that honors the land and sea of southern Portugal, Cafe Alentejano promises a deeply satisfying experience, rich with genuine regional character and culinary excellence. As Martín from Valencia sums up: "La comida... bonissima y el postre también," a sentiment echoed by all who walk through its doors.

For a relaxed yet memorable dining experience where passion for food meets the spirit of tradition, Cafe Alentejano is an indispensable gem in Estremoz’s gastronomic scene.

British tourist here. The wild boar stew (not a casserole, rather, a dryer dish) was, quite possibly, the best meat dish I have had in my life. I relished every bite. It’s also the most ethical and sustainable meat you can get in Portugal, so what’s not to love? (Service was also excellent - a single gentleman running the whole thing but very light on his feet!)

¡Muchas felicidades! ¡Sigan así! Seguro que repetiremos.
